ICB Researcher Hyongsok “Tom” Soh, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and of Materials in UC Santa Barbara’s College of Engineering, is one of only two recipients nationwide of a 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship in engineering.

On Friday, March 19, 2010 the Institute for Collaborative Biotechnologies and the Institute for Energy Efficiency will be hosting a joint seminar by Prof. Michael Graetzel, Director of the Laboratory of Photonics and Interfaces (LPI) at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland. Prof. Graetzel is a world-renowned leader in the field of photovoltaics and next generation solar cells.

Such structural colors have recently gained tremendous interest for the use as photonic band gap crystals with enormous potential for next-generation energy and information technology concepts.

In the next twenty years the process of identifying aptamers was improved substantially - today non-classic aptamers (called SLaptamers) make possible some applications that cannot be achieved with monoclonal antibodies (or other antibody mimics).
