H. Tom Soh is Elected to the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2014
ICB Investigator and UCSB Garland Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials, H. Tom Soh was elected Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), for significant contributions to the medical and biological engineering community; Specifically for the development of novel biosensors and innovative methods for rapid discovery of synthetic affinity reagents. Soh also holds the positions of co-Director of the Center for Stem Cell Biology and Engineering as well as Associate Director of the California NanoSystems Institute.
With interests that lie in the directed evolution of materials and integrated biosensors, Soh has conducted research that paves the way for the early detection and personalized treatment of many diseases. One of his recent accomplishments is the development of real-time biosensors that can measure concentrations of target molecules continuously in living organisms—a development that could change the way diagnoses are made and drugs prescribed and delivered.
The AIMBE College of Fellows consists of individuals who are the outstanding bioengineers in academia, industry and government. Fellows are nominated each year by their peers and represent the top 2% of the medical and biological engineering community. Fundamental to their achievements is the common goal of embracing innovation to improve the healthcare and safety of society.
Soh and other newly elected members will be inducted into AIMBE on March 24th in a ceremony during the institute’s Annual Event at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
